Cambridge Breast Center

The Cambridge Breast Center is a warm, safe, and supportive environment that helps women from across the Boston area with problems and fears concerning breast health.

What You Will Find Here

Quick Appointments: When you have a breast health need, you shouldn’t have to wait and worry. We maintain an open access schedule which often allows patients to be seen on the same day.

Recognized Quality: We are accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program of the American College of Surgeons and an indicator of quality.  In fact, our center was the first to be accredited in the state.  In 2012, the American Cancer Society recognized the Cambridge Breast Center staff for our commitment to breast cancer patients and caregivers. Our mammography department has been recognized as a Center for Excellence by the American College of Radiology.

Coordinated Care: Our breast health and mammography teams work together to give you accurate, timely answers to your questions. You will also have access to a patient-centered, multicultural services department to meet any language and translation needs you have.

3D Mammography/Digital Breast Tomosynthesis. The Breast Imaging department is proud to offer digital breast tomosynthesis, or 3D Mammography at both the Cambridge and Everett hospitals. Tomosynthesis is a new type of mammogram that involves taking multiple slices through the breast rather than a single slice as is obtained in conventional mammography. With multiple slices, radiologists have a much more detailed and accurate image of the breast as they are better able to see through overlapping tissue. The machines in our breast imaging suites are the newest on the market and have been shown to provide the most minimal necessary radiation.

Tomosynthesis is particularly helpful in women with dense breast tissue because it allows for a more sensitive evaluation and has been proven to reduce the number of women who have to be called back for additional mammographic imaging, reducing the anxiety associated with these call-backs.

If you have any questions about breast imaging or tomosynthesis or would like to schedule a same day appointment, please call 617-665-2030 for the Cambridge Hospital or 617-381-7196 for the Everett Hospital.
